Happy Birthday to Bowie or us?!

Well tomorrow is Mr. David Bowie's 66th birthday (and of course we are going to go celebrate at The Echo's tribute to him in Silverlake on the 20th) but I logged into his website and... BAM!

Apparently as a birthday gift to US... he is coming out with a new album after 10 frickin years! Wow... I must say I am impressed. I am also extremely excited. As excited as a giddy schoolgirl. I can't even hide it.

Anyway check out his website for official details on the new cd, the new video, and the new single! Although I wasn't hooked by the new song, I'm still very intrigued. Lets stay tuned.

New Release: "Parable" by Fake Furs

Coincidentally, almost a year to the day, I'm doing another post about the Fake Furs. I really believe in the bands that I mention here. So it's of no surprise that these guys appear, yet again!

Huh!?
The band has given fans a savory gift for Christmas: Parable. This song is considered part of their "Follow The Guns" album. However, I downloaded the album about a year ago and, sadly, this song wasn't originally on it. (It is available for individual download on their website. See above link.)

Whats to Hear?
This band creates musical gems, and there is no doubt about it. I love both Sonny's thrashing drums and Laszlo's mellow voice. However, to me this song sounds nothing like other songs I've heard from them before. I even had to do a retake when I started listening to it. The sound is more mature and connected to the basic sounds of current popular music (yes, I mean pop). It sounds like the something that would be the  soundtrack song to a close group of young adults going to Venice Beach on the weekend and having a mischievous joyful summer day.
I've been more partial to their slow melodic jams, but I was surprised to find Parable very enjoyable. It was a bittersweet song to me. From the beginning I thought, "Oh crap... is this going to corny?" as the first 5 seconds of the song rang free. However, it was quite fun to listen to. I can see myself bumping this song on my way to a club somewhere. Definitely worth a listen.

The Poetry
I'm a big fan of the poetry behind the lyrics of a song. This song didn't have quite the poetic elements I like in songs but had a very creative message that made the song a double winner. It appears to be (very poetically so) about a rekindled connection. It's about the yearning for someone that once existed inside the speaker's life and for one stubborn reason or another was separated. This is the speakers ultimate plea to "meet [him] at the edge of time" and "rewind." It concludes to be a very positive peace about second chances. Well told.

Fan Commentary
"To me, its a very solid song. Its the type that when you listen to the intro, it hooks you. I feel its a very good combination of melody and lyrics. Personally, I was attracted by the soothing vocals and he combined that with a melody that maintains you awake and engaged." - Arturo Peraza

New year, new name, new layout!

Happy New Year ladies and gents. I hope you have stuffed your face accordingly during the holidays. The last year has created a lot of set backs for me. Unfortunately, I did not post on here as often as I would have liked. However, this year I am full of energy and ideas (and time).

What?
As you have noticed I have given the blog a facelift. It need a bit of botox, honestly. Well, I hope you like it. Feedback is always welcome. (Sidenote: the background photo I took is of Carlos Ann - a Spanish musician). Another big thing is that I cropped the name of the blog. It just has a better ring to it, I think.

Future
I am currently working on some material for future blog posts. It should be quite exciting. If anyone should ever be interested in writing for my blog, please feel free to email me: RxMusicFusion@gmail.com

Here's to making 2013, this blog's year!

Bowie Fanatics - The Spiders from Mars are Coming!

Huh?!
Bowie-fanatics of the world, listen up! January is the Bowie month (he was born this month and will be 66 years old this year -  hope he applied for Social Security!). I love Bowie as much as the next person (or even more), and that is why I wanted to share this interesting bit of information for those of you who are unaware. Angelinos, Part Time Punks does a fabulous tribute to David Bowie that I have never seen or experienced before. About twice a year PTP (Part Time Punks) puts on a tribute night to Mr. Bowie either at The Echo or The Echoplex in Silver Lake, CA. I have been to every single of them since I found out in about its existence in either late 2011 or early 2012. Let me tell you, they do the thin white duke justice!

When?!
For all you Angelinos or tourists in LA at the time, Part Time Punks will have the next David Bowie Tribute Night (thank goodness there is still some joy in the world) on Sunday January 20, 2013 (yeah, yeah, its a Sunday but the following Monday is President's Day and I don't work!). And who else will be DJ'ing that night but the fabulous Jose Maldonado from the very famous Sweet and Tender Hooligans (Smiths/Morrissey tribute band).

What Else?
In addition (something you wont find anywhere else), PTP creates a custom lifesize wooden cutout of David Bowie just in case you want to show him some luvin'. I will definitely be there January 20th dancing my a** off, along with other members of the Bowieism Facebook group. So see you there! I'll be posting photos I might have from that night, amongst the madness.
